CFD modelling of the magnetic nanoparticle aggregate – running
The usage of the magnetic nanoparticles is widespread, primarily due to their small sizes, high surface-to-volume ratio and their controllability by the magnetic field. The scope of the project is to improve a specialized two-phase CFD solver, which is capable to model the aggregation procedure of the nanoparticles in the presence of the magnetic field. In the solver one phase is the fluid while the other denotes the aggregate. In the magnetic field the magnetic nanoparticles are aggregating into chains, which phenomenon is treated in the two-phase solver with a specialized viscosity model. The solver is implemented with the open source CFD software OpenFOAM.
