Numerical modelling of ship generated waves – running

Analysis of ship induced waves on the littoral zone of rivers is of great importance from severak aspects. For instance, waves increases the exposure of the river bank to erosion that plays an important role in riverine habitat. There is, however, a significant lack of knowledge mainly due to the complex behaviour of the wave processes. The main goal of this research project is to reveal the physical nature of the wave motion and to provide quantitative estimation on velocity and erosion parameters using computational tools. However, due to the complex spatial and temporal character of the waves the numerical reproduction of the phenomenon has a significant computational demand. The numerical model chosen for this project, called Reef3D, has the capability to parallelize the computation and so reasonable decrease in the computational time can be gained compared to PC's.
